I'm currently teaching 8th grade Spanish. I have taught all levels of Spanish, from kindergarten to high school, at various times in the past 17 years. I have a BA in Spanish and International Relations from Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, IL, and an MA in Spanish Language and Culture from the University of Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain. My shop includes all types of resources for Spanish and French, as well as materials for English Language Arts and ELL.

Tener Expressions 4 x 4 Matching Squares Puzzle - Students assemble a 4 x 4 Spanish/English vocabulary puzzle with 20 different tener expressions. Sample expressions are: tener hambre, tener la culpa, tener vergüenza, and tener sed. Several words are repeated which makes the puzzle more challenging. Just photocopy enough for a class set (1 for every 2 students if working in pairs, or 1 per student if working alone), cut and fasten with a paper clip. Distribute to students and challenge them to reassemble the puzzles as quickly as possible. There is a list of all words alongside the puzzle in Spanish and English. This can be used as a tener expressions bookmark and reference.

Spanish Irregular Verbs PowerPoint Booklet Project - Students create a booklet or PowerPoint that includes irregular present tense verbs. Required sections are: -go verbs; stem change verbs; a section for ir, ir a + infinitive, ser and estar, saber and conocer; regular verbs for the sake of showing contrast between regular and irregular verbs. Students must provide full conjugations of all verbs, write 2 sentences for each, and explain the differences between ser and estar, and saber and conocer. Included in the download: 1. Requirement page in large font for projecting and presenting the project. 2. Sample page for projecting and presenting. 3. Grading sheet for the 205 point project. Students use the sheet while working on the project and must hand it in with their completed projects. Failure to submit the sheet results in a loss of 2 points on the project. This is a great end of the year project for Spanish I students but would also be a great beginning of the year review project for other levels.

This activity includes 16 different activities associated with New Year's Eve. Examples of verbs used are ir, celebrar, brindar, bailar, leer, comer, mirar, and estar. Students will practice 3 forms of the Spanish preterit with these activities. Each student mingles with a bingo grid and must find different classmates that can reply yes when asked about statements in each of the 16 boxes. A sample statement in the box is, "Comí 12 uvas en Nochevieja." When a student replies yes to a question, the questioning student follows up by asking in Spanish for the student's signature. The goal is to be the first student to fill the entire bingo grid. Also included is a follow up worksheet that requires students to: 1. Write a sentence for each of the 16 boxes in the grid. The student includes the name of the student that signed the box and must change the verb to the third person. 2. Write an appropriate Spanish word related to New Year's Eve under 6 images at the bottom of the paper.
